November 1992

In 1992 I moved my studio to Spaulding Street in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago. The theme for the November Project that year was inspired by a church across the street that I would see every day when I looked out my front windows. Photographing this church everyday for a month was meant to be a challenge similar to Claude Monet's challenge that he had set for himself to paint multiple versions of the Rouen Cathedral. I, of course, was aware that this church was not as magnicient a building as the Rouen Cathedral, but for me that was not the point.

Something that I did not anticipate with this theme was that there would not be much difference between the photographs because the majority were basically from the same location. This fact coupled with the knowledge that my titles for each day do not have much descriptive detail makes it difficult to distinguish one from the other without careful scrutiny. The majority of the photographs this year were made using an old Agfa camera that resulted in negatives with rounded corners. Except for Nov. 14 - 16 and 26 - 30, when I returned to Michigan to be in a friend's wedding and for Thanksgiving, all photographs of November 1992 were taken in Chicago.
