While working on the November Project in 1991 I lived on Goethe St. in the old town neighborhood of Chicago, but traveled back to Michigan for deer hunting and Thanksgiving.
The theme of 1991 took me a couple days to figure out, but by November 3rd involved walking one block further eastward from my studio each day and taking a photograph looking down the street either to the south or north. At the beginning of the month I looked south. When I reached the lakefront I made a photograph looking out onto Lake Michigan. On the remaining days I walked eastward one block less than the day before and looked north as I made my photograph. At this time I was working as a photo-assistant during the day at Petersen Associates so many of the November Project photographs were made after dark.
